When Urban Decay came to us to do their first ever LIVE celebrity webcast we knew it was going to be epic. Urban Decay creates high-performance cosmetics in an insane range of shades, beauty with an edge™ and has a massive social following. The webcast introduced their joint venture with Ruby Rose, a special-edition line of cosmetics evolved from inspiration from the work of groundbreaking street artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
The invite only event was held at the Broad in the center of downtown Los Angeles with over 200 of the top fashion bloggers in attendance. Urban Decay’s phenomenal marketing/social team considered every detail from the live music to the custom Basquiat photo booth frame, down to the vibrant purple cocktails and the result was incredible. Capturing the energy and excitement of this event posed a few challenges, to say the least.
The webcast was to be fluid with moving cameras, everything needed to be wireless and in DTLA, that’s a massive technical challenge. The stream, cameras, and audio all had to work! This was a live TV show, it just happened to be on the web there was no room for error. At Granbery Studios we have 18 years of technical live event experience with CNN, ESPN, CBS and corporate communication leaders.
We knew exactly what needed to be done. We assembled our highly-experienced crew and used top notch gear to ensure that the likelihood of human error and equipment failure were minimal. For a dedicated high-speed stream with redundancy, high-band with and back-up options, we chose the LiveU platform. A bonded cellular platform for uninterrupted dedicated direct transmission of the signal to Facebook live. The result? 350,000 viewers in first 3 minutes of the webcast escalated to well over a million views and likes in 15 minutes.
Urban Decay believes makeup is not about covering your flaws but showing the world who you are. Thanks to our clients choosing Granbery Studios to cover this fantastic event, our crews’ flawless performance and exceptional technical support, the LIVE webcast showed the world the excellence each part of the production team embodies.
